Hi, the general feeling is that the NVQ LATA route only collects evidence of what you already do and not provide any formal training as such. This is true if you are an experienced technician starting at level 2. The provider should be in a position to train you in areas you are not confident in or are new.
You do not have to start at level 2 if you have experience, but it is recommended to do level 3 before going on to level 4.
Another argument is that you do not get any more money for having a level 4 as you would with a level 2, equally though if you don’t have the qualification you have less chance of progression.
If you do go down the NVQ LATA route you will have an argument that you are working at level 3 or 4 and should be paid accordingly (Your union may be of help).
Any qualification in your field can only be of benefit and may be a necessary route if you want to gain professional status.
Finding somewhere that offers NVQ LATA may be a challenge.
