Question - I have been fortunate to be placed incharge of a group of lovely technicians, including assistant science technician. As I have not had the pleasure of working with assistant science technician, I was woundering if anybody could help me with dealing with a small matter.
I am having daily discussion with the technicians and assistants, however the conversation always turns to what jobs do the assistants do. I have looked on CLEAPSS and searched the web for ideas as to what jobs they are able do and can not do. All I find is that they do everything under the supervision of a technician, this is fine. But the problem is that if the assistant has been working within the Science Department for a few years, should they still be working under a technician or would you feel that they would be able to do things on their own, eg move chemicals and refil reagent bottles (stock dilutions would still be done by an experience technician).
Thank you for your help in this matter.
