Hi, as many schools are being converted to academy status and many horror stories, as well as good ones are circulating, can anyone who has become part of an Academy say if it has made any difference to the way you work or you working conditions?

The only thing we noticed was that we had to join CLEAPPS individually as the local authority had sorted out a blanket cover before. Worth checking out.

I had heard that the academy could save money by not buying into some outside services which the local authority bought into. Thanks I will certainly check it out.

LEAs register with HSE for use of radioactive materials (see L93).  If you are not in the LEA because you are an academy, you have to register (or at least the governors do) as an individual school. It is the responsibility of the employer, which has become the academy rather than the LEA.  This needs reflecting in the documentation.

Phil.
